POOLE POTTERY CARTER TILES ADVERTISING DISPLAY SIGN

This wonderful Carter Tiles of Poole point of sale advertising sign dates from the period 1905 to 1920 and would have been distributed to Carter Tiles stockists of the time

It is 3" (7.5cm) long, 2" (5cm) high and 1" (2.5cm) thick

They were not made the same as production pieces, having no factory backstamps, decorator’s marks, unglazed bases and a high-fired glazed finish that is prone to chipping

As you can see, it has had a hard life which is quite normal for these, they were very seldom looked after very well and on the rare occasions they come onto the market this is pretty much the usual condition

Now well into the antique age and over 100 years old, these are very seldom seen on the market and it will make a fine addition to any collection
